Defining Dyslexia

Local dyslexia & SEND information

Your council’s Local Offer, area by area

Every local authority in England must publish a Local Offer: a single place setting out the education, health and social care support available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. It is free to use and it is often the fastest way to find out what your area already provides.

This page lists the official Local Offer for each area we assess in, alongside the Defining Dyslexia page for that area. It is not a national directory. We only list places we genuinely work.

We are independent

Every local authority in England must publish a Local Offer setting out the SEND provision available in its area. Defining Dyslexia is an independent specialist assessment service and is not part of, commissioned by or endorsed by any local authority. These links are provided because they are genuinely useful sources of wider information.

Areas we cover

Sheffield & South Yorkshire

Assessments across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and into north-east Derbyshire and the Peak District.

Sheffield

Sheffield City Council

Education, health and social care provision for children and young people with SEND across the city, plus how to raise concerns with school.

Barnsley

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

The council's searchable directory of SEND provision, from early help through to post-16 support.

Rotherham

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Advice, services and provision for children and young people with SEND aged 0 to 25 across the borough.

Doncaster

City of Doncaster Council

SEND services and support across the borough, including early years, school support and EHC needs assessment.

Chesterfield & the Peaks

Derbyshire County Council

SEND provision across the county, including the rural north-east Derbyshire and Peak District communities.

Areas we cover

Peterborough & surrounding areas

Assessments across Peterborough, Stamford, Rutland and south Lincolnshire, four councils in a small geographic area, so families often need more than one Local Offer.

Peterborough

Peterborough City Council

The city's Family Information Service holds the Local Offer directory of SEND services, groups and advice.

Stamford

Lincolnshire County Council

Stamford sits in Lincolnshire, so the county Local Offer applies even where families use Peterborough or Rutland schools.

Rutland

Rutland County Council

England's smallest county publishes its own Local Offer through the Rutland Information Service.

South Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire County Council

Covers Bourne, the Deepings, Spalding and the surrounding villages.

Finding your own Local Offer

We assess remotely across the UK, and we deliberately do not try to list every council. If your area is not above, find your authority and its Local Offer directly.
