Our Services

Many people search for a “dyslexia test” when looking for a full diagnostic dyslexia assessment. At Defining Dyslexia, a full assessment goes          significantly beyond a screening test, providing a comprehensive profile and a detailed written report with practical recommendations.

Dyslexia Assessments for Children

A thorough, evidence-based assessment identifying your child's individual learning profile, areas of strength and difficulty, and what support may help. The report includes clear, practical recommendations for home and school.

Dyslexia Assessments for Adults

It is never too late for answers. An adult assessment provides a clear learning profile, practical recommendations and a better understanding of your individual strengths and difficulties.

Assessments for University Students

Preparing a DSA application or needing evidence for exam arrangements? Exploring DSA or support at university? A diagnostic assessment can help you understand your learning profile and provide evidence to support conversations about appropriate adjustments and support.

Online and Remote Assessments

Can't travel or prefer to assess from home? Full diagnostic assessments are available remotely across the UK, with no compromise on quality or rigour.

Support for Schools

Access arrangement testing, SENCo cover, and staff training on JCQ Form 8 and identifying SpLD. Practical, experienced support that fits around your school's needs.

Mark's focus on early intervention, personalised learning plans, and using technological aids ensures remarkable progress. What does the
assessment involve?

A dyslexia assessment is often more straightforward than people expect. It begins with a relaxed first conversation, and there is no obligation at that stage. From there we gather a little background, arrange a date that suits you, and carry out a friendly one-to-one session.

Afterwards you receive a clear written report with practical recommendations. We then talk the findings through together, so you are never left to decode a document on your own. Support does not stop there either, since we offer ongoing guidance for home, school and work.

About Your Assessor

Every Defining Dyslexia assessment is carried out by Mark Wilson, a PATOSS-registered specialist assessor with fifteen years of experience supporting children, young people and adults with dyslexia and other learning differences.

Mark holds an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and works to the standards set by SASC. He is also a qualified teacher and former SENCo, bringing together specialist assessment expertise with a practical understanding of education and SEND.

This means your assessment is about more than identifying dyslexia. It is about understanding what the findings mean in real life and turning them into practical next steps for school, university, work or everyday life.
